Part of Italy's famed Milky Way, Sestriere is the highest venue of the 2006 Winter Olympics. Its steep runs, which total more than 120 km (75 mi), will challenge competitors in the Alpine skiing events. The resort sits at 2,035 m (6,677 ft), and is also popular during the summer for activities such as hiking, paragliding and horseback riding.

Located approximately 97 km (59 mi)from Turin, and very near to the bobsleigh, luge and skeleton runs, Cesana San Sicario is the venue for the 2006 Winter Olympics biathlon events. The shooting ranges and cross-country tracks comprise a total area of 347,201 sq. m (415,200 sq. yd). This grueling sport requires steady hands and great endurance.
